Jagdpanzer T @RT44446946 Sep 17, 2026 Not as boring or pretentious as other "elevated" horror films, but still very much in the same vein. The mother is obnoxious and annoying. She's also the designated strawman character whose sole purpose is "balancing" the plot with incredulity. The problem is that the audience knows she's wrong so every time she's on screen the plot grinds to a halt. Like most movies in the subgenre "The Dogs" has major color grading to make everything dreary and oppressive looking which - as it turns out - is not entertaining. In the end it was also very predictable, which works against it since it's not really a dialogue, character, or effects-driven movie. This is one of those movies that you only even keep watch to find out (or confirm) what's actually going on, and it's exactly what you think. One thing I will say however is that the acting is decent. No one seemed unconvincing in their roles regardless of whether they were likeable or not. She finds an isolated farmhouse shown by the realtor Ken Armstrong and owned by her neighbor Art Sinclair for an affordable price. Soon Cameron sees and hears a pack of voracious dogs in the real estate and talks to the ghost of a boy, Jacky. He learns that there were murders in the house, but Katherine does not believe in him. When Katherine dates Ken, Cameron calls his father since he believes his mother exaggerates his violence. But soon Cameron finds several truths. "The Dogs" (2025) is an underrated Canadian ghost story. The plot has flaws, but the story is good and worthwhile watching. The actress Kathleen Munroe is a beautiful woman. My vote is seven. The Dogs does its best to combine the horrifically dysfunctional family genre with your standard ghost story and does manage to create a couple of moments of suspense and dread, but more often than not comes across as a dueling genres sort of thing, which is a problem. Equally problematic is the fact that it has the production values of your standard Hallmark movie, which is somewhat forgivable considering what must have been an insanely low budget. So many things feel wasted here – the creepy cornfield, the rundown farmhouse, and a ghost that seems friendlier than Casper, among others. It’s a decent enough effort, but just doesn’t work. It was a different kind of horror movie. Even though it had some jump scares, it was more about the story and the family dynamic. All in all, a very good movie.
