Critics Consensus

Generally amusing in spite of its predictable approach to marital doldrums, The End of Sex offers an earnest yet often awkward look at intimacy.

Uneven, not very original... Kind of mediocre, but worth some laughs.

Lust and laughter run thin in “The End of Sex,” a weirdly traditional comedy in which a bored married couple attempt to revitalize their sex life.

The movie doesn’t have characters but stereotypes and the moment it touches on something real, it sacrifices it for a comedy bit. The film is cohesive enough to be watchable, but if you’re looking for insight, try somewhere else.

In many ways it’s a lot like dozens of marital-mirth comedies that came before it, but It’s unassumingly above average as it indulges the genre’s broader tropes.

The End of Sex is a very funny film with relatable performances and a meaningful story that doesn't focus solely on sex to find connections with its audience.

A film with a comedic tone that nonetheless takes itself seriously. A couple, worn down by the routine of parenthood, finds themselves free of their daughters for a week and attempts to reignite their sex life through various experiments—experiences where desires and frustrations stir up a range of emotions and reflections. While lacking narrative originality, the film touches on pertinent issues regarding sexuality in parenthood and the rediscovery of an erotic world, absent the unthinking freedom of youth.

Cringey, with some memorable moments in between. Cut a half hour and air it as an episode of red shoe diaries or something.

It was funnier than I expected it to be and it had some unexpected twists. The editing seemed a little choppy at times but overall a decent movie to stream at home.
