In this classic silent comedy, the Little Tramp (Charles Chaplin) heads north to join in the Klondike gold rush. Trapped in a small cabin by a blizzard, the Tramp is forced to share close quarters with a successful prospector (Mack Swain) and a fugitive (Tom Murray). Eventually able to leave the cabin, he falls for a lovely barmaid (Georgia Hale), trying valiantly to win her affections. When the prospector needs help locating his claim, it appears the Tramp's fortunes may change.

When Chaplin is complex he is not true to himself. When we admire his complexities we are not true to him. To acclaim The Gold Rush among his finest work would be to confess a misunderstanding of the very qualities that have made Chaplin fine.

A classic from 100 years ago is really amazing the work of this genius, how after a century he still makes laugh to the audience. And watching in a movie theater the day of the premiere one hundred years after is so special.

Synopsis
