Cassie B. @RT42470374 Apr 20 It's not intended as a "jump scare" type of film so if that's what you're looking for, you're going to be disappointed. There's a definite psychological edge to the movie with a concept that has the potential to truly blow audiences out of the water. Unfortunately, it fails to deliver. Some of this the budget, which was obviously smaller than the film deserved and needed. Effects, scenery and costumes were good, but they weren't great. There was also some issues with setting up atmosphere. It just didn't quite hit the right feel all the time. This could have been due to a variety of reasons. The main issue, however, was ultimately in the script. The characters were bland and underdeveloped. There was no real real sense of connection with them. The ending was also rather milque toast and thin. It lacked logic and cohesion. So why 3.5 stars? Because it truly is a fantastic premise and even with the flaws, there are some decent performances from actors to keep an eye on. See more Andrew L. @light4668 Apr 19 Definitely not scary at all. Throwback scenes to classic horror movie tropes, a Hitchcockian psychological thriller storyline, excellent performances and exceptionally lovely visuals achieved in collaboration with Director of Photography Aitor Mendilibar at the real-life scare location Markoff's Haunted Forest guarantee that this offering will not disappoint. The movie also satisfies on a horror level. While much of the mayhem is committed out of frame, the bloody aftermath is there to see courtesy of excellent props and effects. A few well-planted jump-scares, as well as the writer/director’s trademark suspenseful ambiguity and plot twist near the end guarantee a great ride. If you are looking for dystopia, look elsewhere. But if you want a good old-fashioned cuddle-up-and-watch horror/slasher that is well-made, fun, engaging, and great to look at, don’t miss Keith Boynton’s "The Haunted Forest."
