Tom F @RT55173143 1 day ago I tried hard to give these movies a fair viewing because I know so many people love them. For me, they are all way overstuffed, a churning series of lazy storytelling and spectacular effects. All of Peter Jackson's additions are awful. | It is worth mentioning that for films 2 & 3 of The Hobbit, Peter Jackson couldn't decide between a family film or a dark prequel to LOTR. Due to this indecision of thematic tone, The Hobbit films suffer with a lack of identity. See more stephenpaul C @ash20261234567890 Sep 13, 2026 The worldwide gross is $956,019,788.00. See more Chris S @Janomi Aug 10, 2026 The Battle of the Five Armies is very solid, and its strongest material is Thorin’s descent into dragon sickness. Richard Armitage gives the role real intensity as Thorin is consumed by greed, paranoia, and pride. His internal collapse gives the movie its best emotional conflict. Martin Freeman remains the emotional anchor as Bilbo. Even when the film is overloaded with armies, creatures, and spectacle, Freeman keeps Bilbo grounded through sadness, decency, and frustration with Thorin. The farewell between Bilbo and Thorin is the emotional highlight. It brings the trilogy back to friendship, regret, and the cost of pride in a way that works better than much of the surrounding battle material. The scale is impressive, but this is the clearest example of the Hobbit trilogy being expanded too far. It is entertaining, but too much of it feels stretched. See more Read all reviews
