Found terrified and alone in rural Louisiana, Nell Sweetzer is now safely in New Orleans. She can't remember the terrible events of the previous months, only that she is the only surviving member of her family. Nell wants to start a new life for herself, but just as she begins the difficult process, the evil force that once possessed her returns -- bringing with it unimaginably horrific plans that mean her last exorcism was just the beginning.

Critics Consensus

The Last Exorcism Part II ditches the found footage format for relatively earnest but deadly tedious psychological terror that devolves into hokum anyways.

It's like a protracted teen drama with a low-budget supernatural showdown tacked on the end.

By the time the kamikaze crows start dive-bombing the church windows, and the shape-shifting demon appears in a hoody and a Venetian carnival mask, the whole thing has degenerated into a mumbo jumbo gumbo.

The Last Exorcism 2 is another in 2013's long line of tepid horror.

Manages to replace pretty much everything good about the original with a string of horror movie cliches. This is a film that serves very little purpose, except perhaps to milk a few more bucks out of unsuspecting movie goers.

An earnest and well-made character-based horror flick that's simply not all that interesting.

Watchable for some decent filmmaking skills, but as things evolve, it gets more and more boring. Ends up being quite pointless somehow.

"The Last Exorcism Part 2" is an unnecessary sequel, not because its predecessor didn't need a sequel, it's down to Part 2 being soulless despite Ashley Bell's best attempt to carry the film & she's the highlight. There are many issues with the film as the work that went into "The Last Exorcism" is missing. This time Ashley Bell has nobody to play off with, as the supporting cast is treated as minor roles. The horror is lazily built on cheap jump scares avoiding every aspect to build tension & cuts away from nearly every kill, so we're pitifully left with hearing a scream. This sequel is an attempt to make money fast, a low quality product that needed to be refunded.

So many loose ends that were not answered. A lot more loose ends that need to be now answered. The first one was good, but this one fell short really far. It's like they knew the first one was good, and then tried to squeeze as much out of this one as possible with cliche horror tropes thrown in to fill gaps. Huge let down.

I always thought I didn't like the found footage style, but this saved the first film and made it quite entertaining. This is a “normal” film that is completely unnecessary as a sequel. Not scary enough and forgettable. The film gets worse and worse towards the end and is so cheap and stupidly staged.
