Critics Consensus

The Mortuary Assistant squanders its chilling premise in a scare-starved story that buries the game's atmosphere beneath bloated lore and a muddled narrative.

The Mortuary Assistant lacks the light to contrast with the shadows: Rebecca and Raymond are both dark, tormented, oblique characters, occupying dark, tormented, stylised worlds, and there’s very little light to balance it out.

It doesn’t feel strong enough to stand on its own two feet...it seems like it wants to lean so much more into the graphic violence than any real cohesive semblance of story.

Never played the game but I hope it’s better than its movie counterpart. Not a scare to be found and the acting is hilariously bad at times.
