Alyssa D @RT61796684 Oct 7, 2026 What the actual fuck. So many things wrong with this movie from the CGI, the weird way it tries to preserve continuity from the 1982 film, to that shit show of an ending. For one, the 1982 version is very clear it was a Norwegian base of just men who didn't speak English. But this prequel introduces Americans, two women, and literally just 1 man who doesn't speak English so why wouldn't there be notes or anything in English found at the base in the 1982 movie??? Yeah, they try to make the base and the bodies found the same. But it's fundamentally different now. It would have been more interesting to have a film in Norwegian with subtitles. Don't get me started on the god awful CGI. Practical effects would have been more effective. It doesn't even succeed in creating tension for the viewer. Then there's the final girl of it all. I hate that and I hate this shit excuse of a prequel. See more Jeff B @RT99430060 Sep 2, 2026 It's hard to watch this. The 1982 version was a masterpiece that took years to find its audience, but this is still struggling to find any audience 15 years after its release, mainly because it fails on every single mark to do justice to the 82 movie. No suspense, no distrust, a slow pace, horrible liberties taken with the CGI over practical effects, and frankly, this deserves to be put in the bin. The cash-in era was dead and buried before this came out. Avoid like the plague See more B P @Bradster69 Sep 2, 2026 Not Bad, but Not My Favorite See more Gabriel S @Sanarel Aug 29, 2026 29 years – for some reason not 30 –, after the original by Carpenter, Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. decides to direct this entry that, at first, feels like a reboot or a remake, but then you find out quickly where this entry sits in the franchise, and this little twist is subtle but nice. That is perhaps the only thing that makes The Thing 2011 enjoyable, pretty much everything else is just too similar to The Thing 1982, but not as memorable nor extraordinary, just, generic and flawed. If you like sci-fi horror, you might want to destroy your night by doing a two-hit, The Thing '82, The Thing '011, but it will leave you with a sour taste in your month. Not horrible, just unnecessary. See more Elaine E @Cookie1965 Aug 24, 2026 It was interesting to me, to see how the Alien actually was discovered. After that it just became part of the 1982 movie, with scares I had already seen. I liked the special effects but that was about it. See more Thomas V @Dontcallmedude Aug 15, 2026 A great prequel to the original John Carpenter Cosmic Horror Anthology. Great for a double feature movie night. I hope someone has the brains to do a Thing sequel. See more Read all reviews
