Trivia question..Who played the Thin Man in the original movie..answer: William Powell. Wrong! It was Edward Ellis. This film is and always will be a brilliant classic. It combines drama, mystery, and comedy in a seamless flowing style. Powell and Loy became Hollywood legends because of this film that went onto all their sequels.

4.0 stars; Dashiell Hammett's witty and clever dialogue transfers nicely into this iconic series. This initial episode (1934) was a great start and preview of good things to come. Rather than being a typical gumshoe-style detective, Nick Charles uses his intellect and a quick-witted, clever wife to solve mystery cases. In this feature, the daughter of an inventor gets Nick to search for her father, who has disappeared after being billed $50K by his former girlfriend.

This movie didn't make much sense. To be honest I didn't know any of the actors and when looking around this movie seems to be part of a whole bunch of similar movies, so I think you should consider this movie more as an episode of a series. The acting is also a bit nervous or pumped up, seems like the style of those days, what's also weird is that a bunch of people get killed and shot, and it's all no big deal very different times than now. I think it's an interesting movie to watch out of curiosity and what films and people were like now nearly 90 years ago and they did have a certain style and autenticity ... might be fun to watch an other one of these, not sure.
