Carlos I @carlosFibarra Mar 11 Universal Soldier is a film I revisit with a strange sense of nostalgia, primarily because it used to be my favorite Van Damme movie, though looking back now, I’m not exactly sure why. While it undeniably has a cool premise, the execution feels surprisingly dry in its delivery. The action beats between JCVD and a delightfully unhinged Dolph Lundgren still provide some kinetic thrills, but the stiff pacing and lack of tonal "soul" make it feel more like a relic of its era than a timeless classic. See more Taiga B @Taiga Feb 6 A promising premise with a pair of 80's/90's action star legends, that unfortunately doesn't deliver. Van Damme's over acting at times or is just showing off his body. I understand that he's supposed to be a cyborg like creature, but his acting performance has been much better in past movies as well as some future movies. The plot and theme seems like a rip off of Terminator, but much worse with a Robocop like rogue robot. The fight scenes are decent, but not spectacular. The chemistry of Ally Walker and Van Damme is probably the best thing about the movie, having a few funny moments that make you chuckle. I thought that once Dolf snapped out of his brain fog he was pretty comical. All the soldiers were supposed to pretty much act like robots. No it's not the best movie ever made but it's entertaining.
