Critics Consensus

An ambitious mix of genres, Vanilla Sky collapses into an incoherent jumble. Cruise's performance lacks depth, and it's hard to feel sympathy for his narcissistic character.

Shane E @Shaneewing May 26 The plot is difficult at times to capture (and really only comes together at the end) but that is the beauty of this film, as Cruise’s character struggles along with the viewer to understand what is actually happening to him. His moment of clarity at the end is ours as well, where the soundtrack and visuals are especially powerful additions to Cruise’s performance. At the center of it all: a lesson that truly sinks in as we realize the torturing consequences that our selfish actions can have on ourselves and the people to whom we connect. See more Thyaagu C @Thyaagu May 22 3.25 ⭐️ Good plot with some genuinely mind bending psychological games. A bit slow at times, and not exactly what I expected, but it still pulled me into its dreamy confusion. Feels like one of those films that could hit much harder on a rewatch someday. See more Henry D @Henry_Domke Apr 12 Beautiful people with perfect smiles, and plenty of production value. But the story meanders without ever pulling us in, and at over two hours it feels too long. See more Todd M. @tm2026 Feb 23 Great movie, Tom Cruise as a narcissist and Diaz as a psycho girlfriend. Totally worth the watch 😎 See more Mic 8 @Mic80 Feb 1 Fantastic movie... great performance from Diaz and cruise See more Snippy M @Riley_6 Jan 26 The movie is great beginning to end. You never actually really know what’s going on until the very end, and if you like movies like that then this one is for you. Tom’s acting was great i could barely even make myself understand that it was him as the character. Great movie and i definitely recommend it. See more Read all reviews
