Brianna G @briZen Jul 28 Dang. I used to love this film 20-some years ago when it came out. Watching it now with grown up eyes, it’s not very good. Eddy is a d-bag. Engaged and flirting shamelessly, “Maybe I was just being a guy” with Mary? Not to mention the way he talks to her, the way she fawns over him just for paying attention to her… the misogyny of the film is so thick it’s hard to see through. Mary, a single, boring, miserable woman looking for love (despite having an incredibly successful career), and Eddy, the engaged but still shopping successful doctor. It’s just frustrating seeing this spooned to the masses when we know single women are among the happiest demographic there is. My rose colored glasses are off. And it’s just not a good film. The biggest one is the absolute hypocrisy from Lopez’s character. Your last serious relationship ended because you caught him cheating RIGHT before the wedding, and you don’t immediately draw back once you find out your dance partner is engaged??? Nope. Introduced by fate and constantly thrown together by wedding plans, love blossoms between wedding planner Mary (Jennifer Lopez) and groom-to-be Steve (Matthew McConaughey).
