It may be that the obligations that Van Grinsven and Anast feel to telling stories of trauma undermine their skills as storytellers. Went Up the Hill is too damn timid for a gothic ghost story. It’s sexless and it doesn’t scare us at all.

*Went Up The Hill* is a haunting psychological supernatural drama that explores grief, guilt, and the struggle to let go through restrained storytelling and a chilling atmosphere. Strong performances, evocative cinematography, and emotionally driven internal conflicts make the film deeply affecting, although a few narrative inconsistencies and a less satisfying ending slightly weaken its impact.
