Whirlpool is fairly ridiculous, especially in its dialog.

Whirlpool may seem, at times, a bit amateurish. However, it also pushes considerable boundaries for both the genre and period.

Lazza's Sapphic imagery is there, but this is not a male transgressor in a female world - it's the transgressor who belongs. There is no real love here. A blonde photographer, his predatory aunt, an isolated house. We linger too long on his face; the countryside is cold, intimidating. This is equally a meditation on age and a corruption of family. It's uneasy, imagery of dolls nailed to the wall disturbing, the violence sexualised and unpleasant.
